Old Fashioned Bedding Giving Way To Modern Polycotton Sheets

Years ago I worked in a local hotel as weekend chambermaid.    I very soon learned taking advice from the old housekeeper who governed the ‘maids’ with a rule of iron was actually the most useful thing I achieved in that time.  This old biddy had been Nanny to the father of the current owner of said hotel and had somehow morphed into a fearsome housekeeper once her Nanny duties ceased.    Fortunately she was forward thinking and although much preferring 800 count Egyptian cotton bedding, she was bright enough to know that the new ‘polycotton’ bedding sets being sold to hotels, were a brilliant advance.  Firstly they were very easy to wash at the lower temperature for less time, and came out dry enough to replace on the bed but not so baked that they creased.   She rejoiced at fitted bottom sheets for not having to iron dozens of extra flat sheets per bed thus making better use of her time.  The cleaning routine was a master class in speed and efficacy too.  The bed changing was always first, then empty all bins, Tidy posessions on dressing tables, pick up clothes and replace in wardrobes.  Dust from left to right and wipe off sticky marks.  The ensuites were done last.  Then the vacuuming.  Voila.
